Prof. Dr. Jens RASSWEILER

Prof. Rassweiler studied Medicine at the Universities of Stuttgart, Freiburg and Tuebingen, Germany. In 1982, he started his urological education at the Katharinenhospital Stuttgart (Prof. Eisenberger) being directly involved in the clinical introduction of ESWL, URS and PCNL. 1988-1994, he was associate professor (vicechariman) at Medical School Mannheim (Prof. Alken). In 1992, he was the first German surgeon performing laparoscopic nephrectomy. In 1994, he became head of the Department of Urology at Klinikum Heilbronn, Academic Hospital of University of Heidelberg. In 1999, he was the first German surgeon, who performed laparoscopic radical prostatectomy. Already in 2000, he pioneered robot-assisted radical prostatectomy. Prof. Rassweiler is active member of various urological societies and on the editorial board of a variety of international Journals. 1999-2010, he was board member of the European School of Urology. Since 2008 he is chairman of the EAU Section of Uro-technology (ESUT). In 2009 he was president of the World congress of Endourology & SWL which he organized in Munich together with Prof. Christian Chaussy. He is honorary member of the Endourological Societies of Hungary, Poland and Turkey. In 2010 he was president of the Engineering Society of Urologic Surgeons (EUS) and became president of the German Shock Wave Society. In the same year, he received the Doctor honoris causa at the Victor Babes University of Timisoara in Romania. 2012 he became Honorary member of the Polish Urological Association. Professor Rassweiler has published more than 350 articles and more than 150 book chapters.
